Switch Off Your Lights On Earth Hour

Earth Hour Reaches Space!

Finally, Earth Hour breaches Earth! For the first time, the global 60-minute switch-off will extend to the International Space Station, where Earth Hour Astronaut-Ambassador Andre Kuipers shall stand vigil over our imperiled planet as the lights switch off on 31 March, sharing photos and live commentary.

Kuipers says he is thrilled to participate in Earth Hour to literally take the globally-significant movement to new heights. "There's no better way to raise awareness for the future of the most beautiful planet in the whole universe!"

Back on Earth, preparations are frenetic. From Angola to Zimbabwe, organizing teams from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and its growing roster of allies are preparing for what is hoped to be the largest environmental celebration in human history.

Honoring our Life Transitions

March 27 * Tuesday * 5:30pm
Ripples Books & Gifts Store
3rd level, east wing, Robinsons Galleria

Life is a continuous process of beginnings and endings. Life transitions are changes in our lives associated with a “discontinuity” of the past and readjustment of the present. As we step unto unfamiliar territories, fear, pain and confusion can easily swallow us. Yet it is through the understanding and honoring our transitions that we begin to heal, grow and evolve into an empowered human being in the sacred path we are on.

We open the space for those who have felt the challenges of life-transitions, especially those currently experiencing a transition in life. It is a time to feel, to stop, to understand, to gather and share insights on the expected and unexpected passages that shape our lives. Hopefully, we’ll also realize that transition is an experience common to all human beings.

We will have an opening ritual, a time of sharing, GINHAWA Well-being practice to help us in our transition, and a blessing-prayer.

Your donations are most welcome.

Every great film starts with a simple concept drawn from an inspiration--from a great novel, the literary arts, or even lyrics. Converging with imagination, a storyline was developed, subsequently, adding research and experience, a good script can be honed. Furthermore, with the continuous advancement of technology and ardent creativeness of the people, written stories have now evolved into moving scenes where lines are translated into more engaging dialogue and visual action and emotion.
Malayang Singing- Kayumanggi Productions (MaSKay), with passion to create, burning love for Filipino arts and literature and seeking different outlets of expression, is bringing once more, Sulyap: Pagsilip sa Paggawa ng Pelikula, now on its third year. Sulyap is a project that aims to promote opportunities, support, encourage and inspire interested people who have undying love for the arts  through writing and filmmaking, giving them an outlet to express and alternative venue to showcase, cultivate and hone their talents and skills to help nurture and develop Filipino culture and values.
Sulyap 3 is a free summer workshop designed to guide Filipino high school and college students, out of  school youth, teachers,  and aspiring filmmakers--both amateur and professional--on how to convey concepts and stories from writing a storyline and scripts into different basic areas, techniques, and styles of filmmaking.
Sulyap 3 will be held on the 12th, 13th and 26th of May 2012 in Quezon City. The workshop has limited (30) slots only.
For more details, questions, and application forms, please contact RG Enoya at 0932-2548767 or email:malayangsiningkayumanggi@gmail.com. Final deadline of submission of forms and storyline will be 12 noon of April 12, 2012.

Who follows the bloggers?

Who follows the bloggers? » Young Star » Article | philstar.com
By Karen Bolilia The Philippine Star Updated March 16, 2012 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - They trumpet the trends du jour and banner references faster than Lana Del Rey. It’s true: bloggers have become shining evidence of the stylized sign of the times.
Next thing you know, they’re doing the publicity rounds and hailed as the next bright young things. The hits and followers became quantifiable, more lucrative. Next thing you know, being a blogger’s a potential profession, tailing the enterprising School of Bryanboy. Admittedly or not, we’re paying attention to them. Why else would their faces be plastered on print ads and editorials?
Strange how the architecture of blogging has developed. The original blueprint’s still intact, with the Internet and a healthy dose of narcissism as its building blocks — but these days the design’s gotten more calculated. The border-blurring, rocketlike ascent of some bloggers has propelled them to starlet status.
Those pedestrian road gallops, side slumps, and knuckle zoom-ins that used to be just a Scott Schuman showcase will now cost you. Maybe even a lot. Calisthenics aside, bloggers embody the nowness, the larger-than-life characters you can now possess thanks to the Internet. Where you once had posters on your wall, you now have daily repositories of looks — and their penchant for dressing up’s rewarded by a chorus of praises via comment boxes. Which is to say, the way these engineers are revered has also changed. These people, and the looks they post have triggered a traditional way of fandom by way of a medium, and a kind of hyperconsciousness has quickly trickled down to their followers.

Pipolwering the "Diwa ng Pipol Power" Logo: Call for Entries

The Pipol Power Institute wishes to “pipolpower” the logo design for the Diwa ng Pipol Power recognition project.

Seeking to recognize, affirm, and enable people power projects all over the Philippines, the Diwa project begins where it should: starting with a logo created by a people power devotee. The jury selecting the logo to be adopted by the Institute will also be composed of people power proponents from a number of sectors.

Below are the mechanics for proposing a logo:

1. All Filipinos and Philippines-descended citizens/residents of countries other than the Philippines may propose a logo design.

2. Each participant may submit ONLY ONE logo proposal.

3. The logo must INTERPRET AND INCLUDE the theme. Please click here to view the
Diwa ng Pipol Power Concept Paper for more information.

4. The design may be done by free-hand rendered in markers, ink, pastel, watercolor, oil or acrylic, or by computer or both free-hand and computer, as long as it will be submitted in a high resolution .jpeg file. There are no restrictions on the number of colors used.

5. The logo should not carry the name or the signature of the artist.

6. The design of the logo must be certified original and/or officially submitted by the participant. Any complaints that may arise due to similarities, likeness, or comparison of the design, the participant will be responsible to prove its authenticity. Under no circumstances will the Pipol Power Institute Inc. (PPII) be held liable for fraudulent submissions.

7. Proponent must fill out an online application form disclosing the artist’s full name, contact details, and the rationale for the logo proposal. This online application form shall be made available through the
Pipol Power Institute’s Facebook page or accessed HERE: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHk3c3EzWWxaOFZsQm15S1A0MVU4ZkE6MQ.

8. Entries will be accepted from March 12 to 31, 2012. Logo entries should be submitted in digital form (.jpg file). File resolution should be 300dpi and file size should be no greater than 3MB.

9. The logo proposal that will be adopted by the Diwa will be that which:

      a. ALL THE MEMBERS OF A MULTI-SECTORAL JURY WILL UNANIMOUSLY LIKE

      b. Captures the idea of courageously and independently taking a stand to uplift life          for a Filipino community

      c. Will not need any explanation to understand

              i. Projects the force of multitudes

ii. Projects creative expression of socio-political change

10. The logo to be adopted as official by the Diwa project will be announced on April 9, 2012. The successful proponent will be informed through email or will be called by the PPI Staff, and shall receive a cash prize of Php15,000.00 plus a plaque of recognition. Other publicity efforts may also be undertaken by the PPII.

11. PPII has the right to use any or all of the selected logo design(s) in all print, digital, video, and other media, including but not exclusively in brochures, leaflets, posters, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and so forth. The name of the designer(s) shall be duly acknowledged.

12. All proposed logo designs shall be considered the property of PPII, which will nonetheless use these other designs only with permission of the designer(s).

COMMUNICATING FOR SOCIAL CHANGE

Long-term, systemic change requires better leadership.
British Council and Rappler are looking to train individuals defined by a spirit and a drive that makes them natural leaders who want to affect change and achieve great things not only for themselves, but for their countries and the world.

BACKGROUND
We envision a world in which the increasing connections between people and communities lead to positive outcomes. Yet in today’s world we encounter an even greater challenge stemming from differences in perspectives, cultures and backgrounds.

This creates a challenge for us to cultivate an atmosphere where communities can collaborate and engage in creative ways to build the change they want to see.

Young people are at the centre of this dynamic process as they have a unique opportunity to collectively shape the communities that they are a part of – be they local or global.

Young leaders as communicators find themselves at a time where new technologies have opened enormous possibilities not just in exchanging information but also in creating dialogues that offer practical solutions to address social realities.

Their efforts in communicating for social change entail a capacity to translate their vision and experience through appropriate tools and technologies, an appreciation of diversity, and a thinking that is both strategic and long-term.
OUR RESPONSE
four-day seminar workshop to provide opportunity for young leaders to find their voice, gain new skills as facilitators of change, and grow their capacity for citizen action towards a more just world.
If you are:
18 to 26 years old, Filipino
actively engaged either as an initiator or a leader in community development work
have a good track record of community service
have strong desire to effectively advocate for social transformation

Then join us from March 24 to 27  to participate in discussions focusing on:
Effective Communication Strategies.  Day 1 brings together different experts who will help you understand how to communicate with larger audiences through a good appreciation of the communication process.
Championing Your CauseDay 2 challenges you to think out of the box and discuss innovative ways to make yourself heard.
Getting Support and Funding.  Day 3 will give you effective techniques for getting buy-in, obtaining resources and funding for your initiatives.
Utilising New Media. Day 4 explores the many possibilities by which digital technology can be harnessed and how it can be used to create greater impact for your work.

Throughout the entire seminar, you’ll also be given an opportunity to get feedback on your work and look at areas for enhancement.

World Glaucoma Week 2012 | Philippine Glaucoma Week 2012

Don't let Glaucoma darken your life..

The Philippine Glaucoma Society already launched the Glaucoma Week 2012 on March 7, 2012 in Makati Shangri-La Hotel which was headed by the Philippine Glaucoma Society president Dr. Maria Imelda Yap-Veloso.
Glaucoma is thought to be the primary reason for preventable loss of vision and in fact, statistics show that over 60.5-million people around the world suffer from the disease, of which 8.5 million of them are already blind in both eyes“, Philippine Glaucoma Society president Dr. Maria Imelda Yap-Veloso said.
Facts about Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group eye diseases that causes damage to the optic nerve and eventually loss of proper vision. Optic nerve is the nerve responsible for transmitting visual images to the brain which is mostly affected by the increase in intraocular pressure of the pressure in the eye.
There are three types of Glaucoma; the (1) Open-Angle Glaucoma, (2) Angle Closure Glaucoma and (3) Congenital Glaucoma.
(1) Open-Angle Glaucoma has almost always no symptoms, or people suffering from this type do not always feel any symptoms. However, if there’s impairment of vision already, it is most likely, the damage is severe.
(2) Angle Closure Glaucoma has in intermittent or an on and off symptoms. A person might just suddenly feel a sudden and severe pain of the eye. One symptom of this type of glaucoma is patient claims of cloudy vision. Other symptoms include redness of the eyes, the patient may suffer nausea and vomiting and there is presence of rainbow-like halos around lights.
(3) Congenital Glaucoma is first seen and diagnosed during childhood. Usually symptoms show up in as early as few months after birth. There is cloudiness and abnormal enlargement of the eye of the child. The child will also be sensitive to light and always tearing.

Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Relaxing Cream, in One Application

I have had the chance to attend Olay's Wrinkle Relaxing Cream launch, last February 21, 2012 at SM Makati, with Ms. Anne Curtis welcoming Olay's new other woman, Ms. Tessa Prieto-Valdez.

Olay generously gave us,  a bag of said product, which i so excitedly took, for i was convinced of it, with the description and testimonies of the Olay ladies, Ms Curtis and Ms Prieto, since they have used it already, obviously, shows on their beautiful faces..
Dramatic Visible Wrinkle Reduction in one (1) Application
The optical signature or how light is scattered differs drastically between younger and older skin. In younger skin, light is diffused from a smoother skin surface. In older skin, light gets trapped in ‘valleys’ or the deeper lines and wrinkles.By understanding the difference in optical signatures, new Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Relaxing Cream revolutionizes skin care with its ability to dramatically reduce the appearance of wrinkles visibly in just 1 application. It does this with micro-fillers – a unique combination of 3 differently-sized particles that fill in the ‘valleys’ of lines and wrinkles to effectively reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles.
Addressing Chronic Wrinkles in 14 Days
While the uniquely-sized particles reduce the wrinkle’s appearance almost instantly, Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Relaxing Cream contains a combination of B3 complex and advanced biopeptides to improve even the look of deep eye lines in 14 days.iii
Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide), Pro-Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E fortify, condition and protect the ‘stratum corneum’ or the skin’s moisture barrier to help it retain its natural moisture. New Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Relaxing Cream also has intense hydrators, which make the skin supple to expression lines. Studies stress the importance of hydration to help slow down the progression of expression lines to permanent lines and wrinkles long-term.
Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Relaxing Cream is exclusively available at Watson’s and SM Department Stores for Php 1,499.00 (50g).
